This includes collector's quality tribal jewelry from many areas including Karen silver and Hmong silver from SE Asia, Turkoman jewelry from Central Asia, Miao tribal silver from China, and Indonesian jewelry from Sumba, Bali, Sumatra, and the Moluccas. This collection includes old tribal baskets, betel accessories, ethnic hats, lacquerware, tribal knives, weaving implements, tribal tools, Yao shaman and priest's ritual objects, and other items, many of which are of museum quality. Our collection of tribal textiles concentrates on Asia: Turkoman and Uzbek 'suzani' and clothing from Central Asia; Indonesian 'adat', clothing, and other textiles from Kalimantan, Sumatra, Java, Bali, Sumba, Flores and Timor; SE Asian silk and cotton weavings and embroideries from Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and China, representing the T'ai, Hmong/Miao, Yao/Mien, Li, Bu Yi, Dong, Khami/Khumi, Zantu, Chin, and Kachin, among other tribal groups. This collection is comprised of newly-made items which show the continuation of tribal traditions in design, techniques, and use. Included are Thai hilltribe baskets, Thai spirit houses, Hmong embroidery, weavings from Ban Rai Pai Ngam, silverwork from Cambodia, folk art paintings on glass, Torajan wood carving, and the exquisite animal carvings of Wayan Jiwa of Bali.
