From Sa Pa, in the north of
Vietnam, these coat panels adorned
the backs of women's coats (See TAV164 above). They are made of
two narrow panels of handspun
indigo cotton joined with a center
seam, and then covered with fine
silk embroidery, a skill for which
the Yao are known and admired.
These panels make an eye-dazzling display when framed.
