This group of textiles includes pieces from
Burma, Indochina (Cambodia, Laos, & Vietnam), southern
China, and Thailand. Most are articles of clothing or baby
carrier panels and were made for personal use, not commercial
sale. Primarily made of silk and/or cotton, these pieces represent
various techniques including ikat, supplementary weft, and
batik, as well as a wide variety of embroidery. When possible,
we try to select older pieces in good condition, of aesthetic
interest as well as ethnographic importance, and especially
those utilizing natural dyes. |
